The major benefits of membership are identified below and include representation, professional development, promotion, comraderie and the ability to network with other building designers.

Members also have access to BDAQ services and publications including the BDAQ Contract of Engagement, BCA Summary Sheets and more. Some of these are heavily discounted for members and others are only available to members.

A more intangible but very important benefit is that members are contributing to the current and future well-being of the profession, the future of all building designers in Queensland, your future!

Members are part of an extensive information network which includes government, building industry stakeholders, materials manufacturers, national and international design associations and educational institutions. The information provided to members from all these sources is factual, up to date and important.

REPRESENTATION
The Association maintains a high profile with its submissions to government and industry. It is selected to participate on working parties and committees which shape the future of the whole building industry.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Association has a professional development program encompassing state and national magazines, local discussion groups, statewide workshops, seminars and conferences.  The program aims to provide all building designers with up to date information on changing legislation, building products, construction systems, business practices and more.

Members who participate remain informed about new materials and new building methods and processes. They keep informed about changes to government legislation and regulations as well as modern trends, client and community attitudes and expectations.
PROMOTION
Effective promotion can be difficult for individuals. The BDAQ budgets heavily on promotion of building designers each year. The BDAQ web site is highly popular among potential clients and members can be included on www.findadesigner.com.au.

Glossy magazines and newspapers (local, state and national) have all featured building designers over the last twelve months and the list continues to grow.
CAMARADERIE
Members who attend meetings and other functions enjoy the friendships which result. Sharing client related stories or design problems can make the sometimes lonely life of small business easier. Anecdotal evidence is that business competitors lose nothing and gain much through mutual recognition and cooperation.

New council policies, new materials or methods, and answers to common problems are all things that building designers share when they get together.
BRANCHES
To assist members with networking and facilitate information dissemination, BDAQ has established branches throughout the state. BDAQ is also a member of the Building Designers Association of Australia which facilitates national networking.
